they are each facing their oppressors that manifest on an internal level. and the climb to the top is usually to ascend above and beyond the life they had been given and wanting more for themselves, needing to prove that they are worth all of this hard work, wanting to finally achieve something that makes them feel like they are okay. the self-sacrifice and deprivation, the devotion, and the extremes they will take to acquire something like self-value has permanence, rather than fleeting senses of validation. really, it’s something so simple -
